PDF Tools Pro › Compress PDF

Compress PDF files without uploading them

Shrink a PDF right in your browser or in the Windows app. The file is processed on your device, so contracts, bank statements and IDs never touch a server.

How to compress a PDF

  1. Open the Compress tool and drop in your PDF.
  2. Keep the default structure-preserving optimization, or turn on image conversion for scanned documents and pick Light (200 DPI), Balanced (150 DPI) or Strong (120 DPI).
  3. Press Compress & Download and compare the original and new size.

Why use PDF Tools Pro

Text stays selectable

The default mode rewrites the PDF's internal structure without rasterizing it, so text, links, forms and signatures keep working.

Stronger option for scans

Scanned PDFs are mostly images. Image conversion re-renders each page at the DPI you choose, which usually cuts scan size the most.

Honest results

Some PDFs are already optimized. The tool shows the before and after size, and you decide whether to keep the result.

No upload, no queue

Compression runs locally with pdf-lib and PDF.js, so speed depends on your computer, not on a server.

Free and Pro

Free plan: 2 compressions a day, one file at a time, up to 10 MB. Pro adds batches of up to 20 files and larger files. Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.

Questions

Is it safe to compress a confidential PDF here?

Yes. The PDF is read and rewritten inside your browser or the Windows app. It is not uploaded, stored or seen by anyone else.

Why did my PDF barely get smaller?

Text-based PDFs exported from Word or similar apps are often already compact. The biggest savings come from scanned documents with image conversion turned on.

Will compression remove text I can select?

Not in the default mode. Only the optional image conversion turns pages into images, and the tool warns you before you use it.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After the app has loaded once (or after installing the Windows app), compression works without an internet connection.
